How to get the two files from Substack
- The export .zip (needed). Open Settings, find Import / Export, and under “Export your data” choose New export. Download the .zip and leave it zipped.
- The subscriber .csv (adds the sign-up source signal). Open Subscribers, click the three dots above “All subscribers”, choose Export, keep “My entire email list” and “All columns”, then “Download last export”.
- Drop both files here together, or use Choose files and select both.
Most important metrics
Point at or tap a box to read it. Each box opens the tab named on it. The boxes follow the order of the tabs.
- An open here is an email open. Reading in the Substack app is not logged, so app-only readers look like non-openers.
- Rates are divided by emails delivered, so they can be higher than the open rate on your Substack dashboard.
- People who unsubscribed are counted in the first-email and cohort findings, not in the list count.
